Frequently Asked Questions
Turnaround time
Question:
How long will it take?

Answer:
Currently our turnaround time is estimated to be 2 – 6 weeks. This value is primarily determined by our current workload and/or the need for any special replacement parts we may need to order.

Maintenance
Question:
How should I take care of my gun once it has been plated?

Answer:
The natural oils and grease in our hands will cause the new finishes to fade if not tended to. We recommend using a microfiber cloth to gently wipe off any smudges or fingerprints. We use a glass cleaner and a little turtle wax spray to restore high gloss mirror finishes.

Price List
Question:
Do you have a price list?

Answer:
We currently do not have a price list. We primarily give estimates until we can view and inspect the firearm in person. If you’re looking for a broad ballpark figure, the following may help: The following prices are based on a full-sized steel 1911 with no custom features. Prices on the lower end typically reflect a matte finish while prices on the higher end reflect a high gloss finish.

Full Nickel Plate$350 - $450
Full Gold Plate$950 - $1200
Full Stainless-Steel Polish$300 - $350
Full Blue$350 - $450
Full Parkerizing$250
Nickel Plate with Gold Accents$650
Blue with Gold Accents$650
Gold Accent Parts only$25 per small part
Stripping Old Nickel$50

Please understand taxes and card processing fees will still apply. Shipping fees will also apply if needed.
Material
Question:
Does the material of my firearm matter?

Answer:
Yes, we primarily plate steel parts. Nickel and Gold Plating do not adhere well to aluminum, and do not adhere at all to plastic or composite materials. However, you still have options even if your firearm has aluminum parts. For example, The Beretta 92 fs has an aluminum frame, which won’t plate well, but we can polish out the frame to nearly match a nickel-plated slide.

Steel Parts
Question:
Can you replace my non-steel parts with steel ones?

Answer:
Yes, depending on availability. However, for a quicker turn-around time, we recommend you order the ones of your choosing before dropping them off. Many firearms manufacturers have steel parts kits readily available should you choose to contact them.

Checking my firearm material
Question:
How can I check if my firearm has aluminum or plastic parts?

Answer:
A: You can use a magnet. Magnets will be attracted to the steel parts of your firearm, but not aluminum or plastic ones. We recommend checking the entire firearm while paying special attention to the slide, frame, trigger, and mainspring housing.

Rust Protection
Question:
Will your finishes provide protection from rust or corrosion?

Answer:
These finishes provide rust resistance for your firearms. However, we recommend keeping up with regular cleaning and oiling as stated in the manual of your specific firearm.

Rifles
Question:
Do you refinish rifles too?

Answer:
Not currently. We are only doing handguns.

Engraving
Question:
Do you engrave too?

Answer:
We are currently working toward engraving firearms in the near future. However, if you choose to have your firearm engraved, please follow these steps:
1. Disassemble
2. Clean and strip
3. Polish
4. Engrave as soon as possible to prevent rust
5. Re-Polish
6. Apply coating as soon as possible to prevent rust

Repair
Question:
Can you repair my firearm before refinishing it?

Answer:
Although we are not a designated firearm repair shop, we can replace some damaged or missing parts in a case-by-case basis if they are readily available. However, we recommend taking your firearm to a designated repair shop for major repairs, especially if the damaged part has a serial number.

Partial work
Question:
Can I do some of the work (like removing the old finish or polishing), then bring/send you the parts to apply a new finish?

Answer:
We do not allow this. One of the unique things about our shop is everything is done in a specific sequence. When the old finish is removed from a firearm, this leaves only bare steel. Since the steel is exposed to the air, this gives the metal a chance to form an oxide layer. This oxide layer will resist the plating process and often gives the firearm a patchy appearance.
When we remove the old finish and polish the metal, the firearm is plated soon after. This disallows the metal to form an oxide layer and promotes full adhesion to our finishing process.

Discounts
Question:
Are there any discounts?

Answer:
Yes, we offer discounts to any current or retired law enforcement officers. Please contact us for more information.

Walk-ins
Question:
Do you take walk-in customers?

Answer:
We prefer contacting us via phone or email before stopping by. This business is run by 1-2 people so there’s a chance no one be here to help you. Contacting us and setting up a time will be greatly appreciated.

Firearm Sales
Question:
Do you sell any (already finished) firearms?

Answer:
Not currently, but we intend to do so soon. Our firearms will be on sale on Gunbroker soon. When they are, more information will be available on our Gunbroker page. If we plan on attending a future gun show, more information will be available on our home page.
